LEGO Design designs and builds Biodesign beach pools in Abu Dhabi — the internationally patented, concrete-free Italian system, engineered without a gram of concrete. We call them Versatile Beach Pools: engineered beach-entry pools built with Biodesign® technology from Italy — the two names describe the same pool. A Biodesign pool is a beach-style pool built on an engineered stone surface over a flexible membrane instead of a rigid concrete shell, with a soft, sandy walk-in entry and an organic, lagoon-like shape. We design, deliver, install and care for it locally with our own team.
What is a Biodesign pool?
Instead of a poured concrete tank, a Biodesign pool is an engineered, multi-layer build: a stone surface of special resins and quartz sand laid over a flexible waterproof membrane. The result looks like a natural cove — a gentle, sandy entry and freeform edges rather than a framed rectangle of tile — and it is generally lighter on water, energy and maintenance than a conventional pool. It is the same system sometimes called a Versatile Beach Pool.
Why Biodesign, not concrete
A conventional pool is a rigid concrete tank that fights the ground and can crack as it moves. A Biodesign pool does the opposite: an engineered stone surface over a flexible membrane, resting on the ground and flexing with it. The system is designed and supplied by Biodesign S.p.A. in Italy, and built here by LEGO Design's own team — design, supply, installation and aftercare. The engineered build — no concrete shell
Every Biodesign pool is built to the same engineered specification, independently tested and internationally patented:
- An engineered stone surface — special resins and quartz sand, around twice the mechanical strength of structural concrete (source: Biodesign S.p.A.), finished in natural pebble, sand and stone.
- A flexible waterproof membrane — up to +300% more elastic than a conventional liner (source: Biodesign S.p.A.); inert, recyclable, and resistant to UV, heat and frost.
- No reinforced concrete — the structure rests on the ground instead of fighting it, so ground movement never overloads it and the pool flexes with the heat rather than cracking.
- Patented & certified — an internationally patented, multi-layer build (source: Biodesign S.p.A.), independently tested for strength, so a standard project needs no further structural checks.
